Publication Ethics Policy:

EMI Journal follow the rules of ethical writing as set by publication Avoiding plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and other questionable writing practices: A guide to ethical writing by Miguel Roig (2003, 2006). The same ethical and responsible approach is expected from all authors. We also follow COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Along with sending the paper for publishing in the journal EMI, the author confirms that:

  • the paper has not been published yet and is offered for primary publication;
  • he/she is the sole copyright owner of the respective paper;
  • he/she obtained the permission to use the material to which a third party owns the copyrights;
  • he/she has keen interest in publishing the paper solely in EMI.

All texts submitted for publication in the journal EMI must differ sufficiently (including the title and the abstract) from other texts already publicized or submitted for publishing in a peer-reviewed journal or monograph. The peer-review process could get terminated if a paper is proven to be lacking such qualities.

If the paper is accepted, the author is asked to complete and sign the Author Statement in which he/she confirms that he/she meets the above-mentioned publication criteria.

EMI magazine has the right to publish the first article. Copyrights are left to the authors and at the same time the authors agree to the licensing of their work under the Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International.

The peer-review process:

By submitting the paper to the journal, the author, in case of several authors the corresponding author, confirms that he/she transferred the right to publish the text in both print and electronic form (in pdf format) to the publisher free of charge. The author also confirms that the paper is his/her original work written during his/her creative activity, and there are no other people owning the copyrights. The submitted paper must not be simultaneously offered to any other publisher.

The editorial board of the journal selects opponents among distinguished professionals who write a peer review with due scientific responsibility. Up-to-date list of such opponents is available on the journal webpage.

All papers and reviews sent to EMI are peer-reviewed by at least two anonymous reviewers who are assigned by the editorial board on the basis of the JEL Classification. The papers are evaluated by reviewers of other institutions rather than by experts affiliated with the author’s establishment.

In order to preserve objectivity, all submissions are made anonymous before being forwarded to evaluation and accordingly, the identities of authors are never revealed to the opponents and vice versa.

During a peer review, an opponent must award points (on a scale from 0-10) to each evaluated part of the paper. If the points given are lower than 5, the peer reviewer is obliged to provide verbal evaluation. In case of evaluation points ranging between 6 and 9, verbal evaluation is non-compulsory and only recommended. Lastly, the peer reviewer provides a final statement which can consist of the following:

  • Accepted without reservation
  • Accepted with minor amendments (publish after revision)
  • Accepted with major amendments (re-enter the peer-review process after revision)
  • Rejected

If the final statement states Accepted without any reservation and all paper opponents agree on the final statements, the paper is recommended to the editorial board for publication.

If at least one of the opponents states in his/her final statement Accepted with minor/major amendments and specifies these amendments, the paper including the opponent’s amendments is given back to the author to make necessary corrections. In case of minor amendments, the paper is submitted to the editorial board for publication after the amendments have been revised. In case of major amendments, the paper is sent back to the opponent.

If the final statement of at least one opponent states Rejected, the paper will not be published.

The editorial board can ask another opponent to write a peer review, if necessary.

The editorial board makes the choice of papers on the basis of the peer-review process. There exists no legal claim to have the paper published. Publication of the paper in the journal is free of charge.

The accepted papers are published both in print and in electronic form.

Users can use, reuse and build upon the material published in the journal but only for non-commercial purposes.
